Reflections on contemporary art, fascination with the history of the activities of Polish intellectuals, activists of the Crooked Circle Club, along with its artistic version in the form of the Crooked Circle Gallery, and ideas that bring together, within a single initiative, circles of authorities who often stand out with mutually exclusive views, while at the same time conducting debates without barriers and prejudices, became an inspiration for us and accompanied us from the very beginning of the idea of establishing an informal group, then the implementation of the project, which finally took the current form of the Foundation.
The circumstances of conducting conceptual work, planning, and finally making the decision to establish the Foundation, occurred in the surroundings of the former painting studio of Bronisław Kierzkowski, a member of the Crooked Circle Club, which is an impulse for us to set ourselves the goal of continuing the idea of an open discussion, focusing the artistic community around creative work, constructive debate, joint exhibitions and artistic messages. At the same time, our ambitions are expressed both in the need to start a broad dialogue on contemporary art and society, as well as work on creating, developing and transmitting valuable artistic content to a wide audience.
Due to the determination and dream of creating a space open to the implementation of the mission of conducting creative dialogue, supporting artists in their development, as well as promoting contemporary art and history, while referring to the best role models and history of the Crooked Circle Club,
at the initiative of the painter Joanna Salska, the “Crooked Circle Academy” Foundation was established. Salska talked with many people about her idea and received an enthusiastic response. From those conversations emerged a group of people – artists, writers, intellectuals – that created a core of the Foundation and is working on a program. Some expressed interest in being part of the project.
Together we are working on a Foundation program. We are looking forward to the implementation of ideas and challenges it will bring.
